• Details:  This is such a great find!  Never used, in original box (NOS - New Old Stock), ornaments of the very lovable Dennis the Menace and his dog Ruff. Dennis is wearing red overalls and his blue and black striped t-shirt and a red Christmas hat with white pom-pom.  He's holding a Christmas wreath with a big red bow and it says "Merry Christmas 1977".  Ruff is also wearing a red Christmas hat and has a red and white candy cane in his mouth, he has a sign on the side that also reads "Merry Christmas 1977", adorable!!   They are stamped on the bottom:  "Made in Japan" "Copyright Hank Ketchum 1977".  We have them in their original box and original packaging, both have a gold cord for hanging.  You know Dennis as the mischievous but lovable, freckle-faced five-and-a-half-year-old boy who is always getting into trouble and bothering Mr. Wilson. Dennis the Menace is a daily syndicated newspaper comic strip originally created, written, and illustrated by Hank Ketcham.  It debuted on March 12, 1951, in 16 newspapers.  The comic strip usually runs for a single panel on weekdays and a full strip on Sundays.  The comic strip became so successful that it was adapted to other popular media, including several television shows, both live-action and animated, and several feature films, including theatrical and direct-to-video releases. A little trivia about Dennis the Menace.  Did you know there was another Dennis the Menace?  It was also the name of a British comic strip (UK comics) which first appeared in "The Beano" on March 12, 1951; it is now published as Dennis the Menace and Gnasher.

Henry King Ketcham (Hank) was born in Seattle, Washington on March 14, 1920.  He was an American cartoonist best known for creating the Dennis the Menace comic strip, writing and drawing it from 1951 to 1994.   Hank originally worked for Walt Disney, where he worked on Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi and several Donald Duck shorts. After WWII he moved to California and began writing the cartoon based on his own four-year-old son Dennis. By 1953 Dennis the Menace comics were in 193 newspapers in the United States and 52 abroad were carrying the strip to 30 million readers.  That same year Hank received the Reuben Award for the strip, which continues to be drawn today in the hands of other artists.  It is now written and drawn by Ketcham's former assistants, Marcus Hamilton (weekdays, since 1995), Ron Ferdinand (Sundays, since 1981), and son Scott Ketcham (since 2010).  Hank died in California on June 1, 2001.
